Jumpman's new flagship store is a 24,000 square foot tenant improvement of a historic building located in downtown Los Angeles. tk1sc designed the new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and lighting systems that the landmark building required, including a pinnacle product lounge, sports-science-equipped Flight Lab, and a full regulation-size rooftop basketball court.

Plumbing Solutions: The rooftop basketball court presented drainage challenges on this project. The team went through many design strategies and ultimately provided a raised ABS glass court system with a slot drain around the perimeter to allow rainwater to drain off the court into a sub-roof level with a series of drains below the court. The building was required to meet all current storm water management guidelines and accomplished this by adding in-line filtration devices on the storm drain downspout piping before spilling thru adjacent curb faces. Russ led all design coordination meetings between the Owner, architect, contractor, and equipment vendors.

Lighting Design Solutions: The tk1sc electrical team was able to engineer a comprehensive lighting control system to control conventional lighting and color-changing lighting in the locker rooms and preset lighting level control in the store and VIP lounges. Planning the backlighting for the basketball court required careful specification of waterproof fixtures due to them being installed inches from the roof surface. The court also included more than 50 low voltage LED lighting circuits that could switch the illuminated court outlines between NCAA and NBA regulation, which required us to design a custom power distribution system to power.
